Secret Story: Seahorses - Stronger Together

This Art Nouveau inspired mixed media painting features two seahorses with the intention of exploring the concept of being “stronger together”.

I was very intrigued to discover that symbolically seahorses represent good luck, strength and power. I figured if one could have that impact, imagine what two could have. (If you’re interested to read more about the symbolism, I found this interesting article you may find an interesting read.)

I decided to feature two seahorses together of different scale, imagining it almost like a parent and child. I loved reading about seahorses and how it’s the male that gets pregnant and has the baby.

Notice it is the smaller seahorse supporting the larger seahorse. I often think life is like that: we need to remember that “big seahorses” need support from little seahorses too. And that little seahorses have a very important role to play in the lives of big seahorses as well.

Colourful starfish feature throughout the artwork, symbolising infinite, divine love, inspiration, brilliance and intuition. I felt that all these were all important characteristics to help us move forward, no matter the obstacles we may encounter.⠀Notice again there are many starfish. Because together we are stronger.

Coral reaches out, extending across the artwork, offering protection from harm.⠀

Finally the background was just so fabulous to paint. I’ve left it free to your imagination. Are they shells? Coral? Plant life? Something else? It is what you think it is.

Through it all, please be reminded that we are stronger together.
