Secret Story: By Your Side
I wanted to explore courage as a theme with this artwork. My femme is determined, looking ahead. She’s unafraid of what may lie ahead in the future. Importantly, she's prepared to stand her ground for what is right.
The bloom Chorizema features. I found out the Latin translates to mean salvation (Choros = dance and Zema = food). Given this plant grows in the desert, obviously someone was doing a few fancy dance moves when they discovered water nearby the flowering plants. I’d be dancing too if I was that thirsty after wandering around in the heat for days.
Butterflies feature representing hope, endurance, change and life together with my favourite eucalyptus leaves which are dispelling negative energy. A little bird (the spotted pardalote) was included, representing freedom.
The ancient checkerboard pattern signifies both the good and bad aspects of life. I can imagine it would feel that way out in the desert. Finally, a Celtic Dara Knot pattern in my femme’s headpiece and on her cloak, representing strength. What I realised the most when I completed her is that she will stay by your side, no matter what.
