Secret Story: Her Beauty Within

‘Her Beauty Within’, an Art Nouveau inspired portrait by Kirstie Page

This femme was inspired by the following quote:

'A flower blooming in the desert proves to the world that adversity, no matter how great, can be overcome.' Matshona Dhiwayo

Look at her closely: my femme exudes inner strength - a willingness to face all adversity - staying resilient through it all.

The rich, vibrant Sturt's Desert Pea features which has a beautiful, yet heart-breaking Aboriginal dreaming story associated with it. In essence, the bloom reminds us that we can grow to reach magnificent beauty despite the harshest, most cruel conditions.

Sturt's Desert Rose features on my femme's gown. Not unsurprisingly, there are a few different symbolic interpretations for this bloom, however the one that resonated with me was that it reminds us of our ability to adapt despite harsh situations or surroundings.

Look closely: her hair features the colours and waves of the desert dunes. The intense blue behind her represents the never-ending sky as it meets the horizon. Finally, butterflies remind us of our ability to endure challenges, to hold onto hope and remember that life is beautiful. There is always hope.
