Secret Story: She Would Be

‘She Would Be’. Original mixed media painting by Kirstie Page

As a lover of literature, I recently read the following:

"She would be half a planet away,

floating in a turquoise sea,

dancing by moonlight

to flamenco guitar."

-Janet Fitch, White Oleander

Oh how these words resonated with me compelling to paint my vision, flowing out from my heart into reality! I loved thinking of the ocean in the moonlight, the sound of the waves kissing the shoreline.

I deliberately wanted my femme to look free. Spirit-like and together with the ocean and the sky.

I wanted her hair to evoke feelings of the waves tumbling over one another in the evening breeze. To achieve this sense of whimsy I part painted, part moulded and part constructed her hair using cut up layers of abstract art that I'd painted in the past. Waste not, want not.

Fish feature near her heart, a reminder to embrace feelings of abundance, serenity, happiness and creativity.

I wanted this artwork to connect with the water element, representing deep awareness of the unconsciousness or her higher self.

Starfish represent infinite divine love.

Finally, the patterned background is reminiscent of stars on an indigo night above waves on a deep ocean.
