Song of the Sunbird

‘Song of the Sunbird’ Original mixed media painting by Kirstie Page

“Why whisper in the shadows
When you could sing in the sun?”

I’ve been thinking a lot about growth lately - reflecting on my own journey as an artist and also in regard to other people’s journeys, whether it be in art or other endeavours.

One thing I’ve noticed repeatedly is that there are so many brilliant, talented people who sadly don’t seem to fully realise how incredibly wonderful they are.

I just wish they could see themselves the way I see them - sincerely see them.

This artwork explores that theme. It’s about coming out of the shadows and reaching toward the light.

I’ve painted a sunbird for the first time - a challenge, but oh so satisfying. These little birds represent intelligence, also evoking warmth, illumination, rebirth and renewal.

Bluebells feature, chosen partly because they are incredibly beautiful but grow in the shade (I wonder if they know how pretty they are?), partly because they represent humility, constancy and gratitude. Finally, sunflowers represent happiness, joy and optimism (amongst other things) - all the things I wish for people to realise in their life.

I can see your light.
